The City of Melville announced new naming rights sponsors for its Communiplex and its Convention Centre today.

The City secured Canadian National Railway as the new naming rights sponsor of the Communiplex and Cornerstone Credit Union as the naming rights sponsor for the Convention Centre within the Communiplex.

The City of Melville first opened the Communiplex in 2011. This 26.5-million-dollar facility quickly became the recreational and social hub of the community, as it features a 1500-seat arena, 500-seat convention centre, indoor walking track, cardiac care centre and the home of the Melville Millionaires SJHL hockey team.

“We are very grateful that Canadian National Railway, a national player, has agreed to actively participate in our community development. We look forward to an official launch event in the Fall when the city unveils the new name of the Communiplex,” said Melville Mayor Walter Streelasky.

“Cornerstone Credit Union already has a long tradition of community engagement in Melville. We look forward to a long and satisfying relationship with both sponsors!”.

“Melville is a critical piece of the CN network,” said Janet Drysdale, CN Senior Vice-President and Chief Stakeholder Relations Officer. “The city houses the largest CN rail classification yard in the province and,
given its strategic location at the junction of so many rail lines, it forms an important link in customer supply chains moving to and from west coast ports. We thought it was time for a new investment in a
community that so many of our employees and customers call home.”

The 500-seat Convention Centre will now be called the Cornerstone Event Centre. Cornerstone first partnered with the City in 2011 when it purchased the Communiplex naming rights to brand it as the
Horizon Credit Union Centre. Horizon Credit Union later merged with the Plainsview and Cornerstone
Credit Unions in 2021 to form the new Cornerstone Credit Union.


The City of Melville wishes to thank Cornerstone for their continued support.

Both sponsorships give the city a stable, sustainable source of funding for the facility, and ensures the
citizens of Melville and area can enjoy its use for years to come. The City thanks Canadian National
Railway and Cornerstone Credit Union for their continued investment in our community and our future.
