Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Prepares for a Thriving Arts Scene in 2025

FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta —The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is setting the stage for a banner year in arts in 2025. Among the year’s plans is the return of igNIGHT, the biennial illuminated art exhibition, scheduled for October 2025 at kiyām Community Park. The theme will be “The Unknown,” with the festival featuring light-based sculptures and designs exploring mysteries beyond human understanding, along with live performances, local vendors, and entertainment.

In addition to igNIGHT, the RMWB will introduce Art for Social Change, a program featuring seven exhibits designed to challenge perceptions around inclusion and accessibility.

The region’s commitment to public art continues with a call to artists for permanent installations at the Northside Twin Arena. Meanwhile, the Wood Buffalo Mural Fest will expand its reach, adding vibrant murals to the Fort McMurray International Airport and the Parsons Creek neighbourhood.

These initiatives are part of the 2025 Public Art Work Plan, presented by the Public Art Committee earlier this month. With these projects and more on the horizon, 2025 promises to be a year where the arts thrive in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
