Despite Trevor Harris turning 39 years old entering the 2025 Canadian Football League season, the veteran quarterback believes he’s in his prime years.

“I feel like I’m going to play my best football right in front of me,” Harris told SportsCage host Barney Shynkaruk. “If that’s the case, and I feel like we can win a championship, why wouldn’t we do this? If I can’t do that, then doggone it, I don’t want to put on the Green and White because they deserve more than that.”

The six-foot-three, 212-pound QB signed a one-year contract extension with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in December. He threw for 3,264 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2024. Harris ranked second in the CFL with a 72.4 completion percentage and led the league in quarterback rating at 108.4.

“The knee that I hurt this year wasn’t fully healthy,” Harris explained. “For me, I’m getting that cleaned up, getting those sorts of things back to ground zero.”

Harris sustained an injured MCL during Week 3 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and returned from the injury in Week 11 against the Montreal Alouettes. During Harris’ time away, the Green and White were 2-3-1 with Shea Patterson as the starter. He hopes to avoid his previous two injured regular seasons, playing five games in 2023 and 11 in 2024.

“The most important thing I can provide for my team is to be under centre all 18 games, playing all of them,” Harris said. “2023, I had an unfortunate situation where, a guy fell on my knee, my legs planted, and my leg shattered. Then this last year, I had it fallen on. I know that I can be better in terms of getting more mobile, getting more pliable in terms of the things that I’ve tried to work on.”

No. 7 rejoins offensive coordinator Marc Mueller for a second straight season together.

“I absolutely loved playing for Marc Mueller — he’s an absolute ascending star,” Harris said. “I couldn’t be more happy to have the same coordinator for the first time since 2018. I’m really happy and lucky that we have the ability to build on that.”

The Riders won’t have to worry about Harris going into the CFL’s free agent communication period, which starts at 11 a.m. on February 2, 2025, and concludes at the same time on February 9, 2025. Players can officially sign with new teams on February 11, 2025 at 11 a.m.
